Sahu wins Bhadrak Open chess title

Dasharathi Sahu of Nayagarh emeged champion in the Bhadrak Open Gold Cup Chess Tournament, securing 7.5 points from eight rounds at Nehru Stadium in Bhadrak today. He received the top prize of Rs 6,000. Soumya Ranjan Mishra of Bhubaneswar and Rabindra Kumar Ojha of Cuttack finished second and third with 6.5 points each. Mishra became richer by Rs 4,000, while Ojha pocketed Rs 3,000.

Rajat Kumar Sahoo (Puri), Rakesh Kumar Jena (Jajpur), Asirwad Swain (Cuttack), Mahesh Prasad Sethi (Puri), Pranab Kumar Patra and Satyabrata Kar (both Jajpur) occupied fourth to ninth positions respectively with six points apiece.

The three-day tournament was organized by Bhadrak District Chess Association. Bhadrak MLA Jugal Patnaik, Collector Akshya Pani and All Odisha Chess Association secretary Vivek Tibarewal gave away the prizes at the closing function.
